“And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” – MATTHEW 16:18 (KJV)
The Church was never designed to hide from hell’s gates, she was built to march against them and prevail. Gates are defensive structures; when Jesus said the gates of hell shall not prevail, He was revealing that the Church is on the offensive, not hell. Every strategy assigned to weaken HighCity; division, discouragement, financial strangulation, moral compromise, is under assignment to be broken this month, because the Builder of this house has already declared the outcome.
Notice the picture Jesus paints: gates do not attack, they defend. If the gates of hell cannot prevail against the Church, it means the Church is the one advancing, and hell is the one on the defensive. This changes how we should pray.
We are not begging God to protect a helpless church; we are decreeing, in agreement with Christ’s own promise, that whatever hell has fortified against HighCity, every plot against her leadership, every attempt to scatter her members, every strategy to silence her voice in the city, shall not stand.
Caesarea Philippi, where Jesus spoke these words, was a region soaked in pagan worship, associated in that day with the very entrance to the underworld.
Jesus chose that exact location to declare His Church’s victory. He is not intimidated by the strongholds around us; He builds His house in full view of the enemy’s gates and still promises triumph.
This month, refuse to shrink back from whatever seems to be rising against the church, financial pressure, spiritual attacks, external opposition. Instead, rise in confident prayer, reminding heaven and hell alike of what Christ has already spoken. The gates are shaking, not the Church.
Prayer
- Lord Jesus, let every gate of hell raised against HighCity Church be broken this month.
- Father, frustrate every counsel and strategy assigned to weaken or scatter this house.
- In the name of Jesus, I decree that the Church shall advance while every satanic gate falls.
