Why Should You Build up Yourself on Your Most Holy Faith?

[Jude 1:17-21 KJV] “But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ; [18] How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts. [19] These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit. [20] But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, [21] Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life”.

In Hebrews 11:1, “faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen”; but to build up yourself on your most holy faith is to exercise yourself unto godliness. It is one thing to build your faith and another thing altogether, to build up yourself. You must, therefore, build up yourself on your most holy faith.

What does it mean to build up yourself on your most holy faith?

It is to train your mind, conscience and spirit.

1. To train your mind through reading: [1 Timothy 4:7 KJV] “But refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness”.

2. To train your conscience through integrity, truth, selflessness, and Empathy: [Acts 24:16 KJV] “And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men”.

3. To train your spirit by praying in tongues: [1 Corinthians 14:1-4 KJV] “Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts , but rather that ye may prophesy. [2] For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him ; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. [3] But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort. [4] He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church”.

What is a believer’s most holy faith?

It is what you believe when no one is watching and when everyone is watching. What will you do when no one is watching? That is what you truly believe. That is where you fall when things get really difficult for you.

Why Should You Build up Yourself on Your Most Holy Faith?

I am exhorting you today to build up yourself on your holy faith. There are several benefits and it is the most appropriate thing to do because;

1. It will help you to survive mockery and escape the contamination of darkness:

In these last days, we are surrounded by many mockers and carnal people. These mockers are everywhere; in the media, at work, at home, in the schools, everywhere. Sometimes, they are even in the church and in the pulpits. The least you can do to help yourself to escape the damaging effects of mockery and carnality is to build up yourself, fortify your mind, strengthen your conscience, and build up your spirit.

Mockery is a beast of these last days, and building up yourself on your most holy faith is the master-key to withstand and overcome.

Job survived the mockery of his wife and friends because he had built up himself in his most holy faith.

2. There are times when life deals with us as individuals, and not as a group:

When Joseph was sold into Egypt, he was carried there alone. His mother was not there, his father was not there, his brothers were not there. He was there alone. The Bible says that the archers sorely grieved him, and shot at him, and hated him: but his bow abode in strength. Joseph had built up himself on his most holy faith.

[Genesis 49:22-24 KJV] “Joseph is a fruitful bough, even a fruitful bough by a well; whose branches run over the wall: [23] The archers have sorely grieved him, and shot at him , and hated him: [24] But his bow abode in strength, and the arms of his hands were made strong by the hands of the mighty God of Jacob; (from thence is the shepherd, the stone of Israel:)”

The woman, Naomi, had built up herself on her most holy faith. She left with her family, but when she became alone, she still remembered Bethlehem and her God. Even for Ruth to follow her hoping to serve her God, is a sign that Naomi maintained her integrity in the difficult times.

3. Prepares you to respond well under pressure:

When the devil attacked Job, his most holy faith determined his response; when the enemy attacked Daniel his faith determined how he responded. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednago responded according to their faith. Do you remember the Shunamite whose son died? She responded according to her faith.

Daniel, shadrach, Meshach, Abednego, and the shunamite; were all able to respond well under pressure because they had built up themselves on their most holy faith.

It is one thing to be a small man with great faith, and another thing to be a built up man with small faith. But it is yet another level altogether to be a built up man with a great faith. A strong man with a better rifle is better than a weak man with the same rifle. It is not enough to have faith, you must be built up on your faith. You need to build up yourself on your faith.

4. Makes more things possible:

Building up yourself on your most holy faith increases the spectrum of things that are made possible for you. Indeed, all things are possible to him that believes. Therefore the more built up you are on your most holy faith, the greater the number of things that are made possible unto you. Building up your faith will help you to see more of the unseen, but building up yourself on your most holy faith helps you to get more of what you see.

We know that, “those who receive the abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness reign in life by one; Christ Jesus”. In fact, faith is the master-key that give us access to the abundance of grace, the gift of righteousness and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Romans 5 teaches that we have access to the grace of God in Christ by faith. This faith gives us unlimited access to grace. Unfeigned and unlimited faith in a man who is built up give him unrestrained access to grace in Christ. This grace is made available and accessible to us by God, but faith is the key that unlocks that door.

We are made the righteousness of God by faith; but justified and approved by men through righteousness. As far as God is concerned, once you believe, you are made righteous; but men will always be men and look on the outward. To make your election sure, believe God and be made righteous; but walk uprightly to be favored by men. Remember, the Lord grew in favour before God and before men. Those who build up themselves on their most holy faith receive greater strength to walk in the steps of faith.

In conclusion, we can understand that many people do not achieve much because they don’t see much of the unseen; and/or are too weak to go for most of the things they see. Having faith helps you to see the unseen, but building up yourself enables you to go for and possess what you see.

Most often than not, there is so much that goes on around us without our knowledge. There is so much that we need to pay attention to. People who are limited to what they have and see, are often very limited in how far they can go. Every man has more than what he sees and perceives. The things you both hope for and are freely given are all part of what you possess. You must therefore train yourself to possess them. Stay blessed!

I love you;
